What Is the Limit on Postponing an Immigrant Visa Appointment With the U. S. Consulate or Embassy?

Li Reader:

I have a family member petition for his sibling under F4. He was scheduled to interview on September 2013, but due to some reason, he postpones to his interview to October 2014 and granted. Now he wants to postpone the interview again until November 2015, how can he get second postponement?

Dear reader,

An immigrant visa applicant must keep in contact at least once a year with the consular post which has his or her case. As your family member postponed the interview to October 2014, he could have postponed the interview again just by requesting such to the consular post within one year of his last communication informing the post that he was still interested in pursuing his case. There is nothing in law limiting the number of times an individual can request postponement of the immigrant visa appointment so long as he or she remains interested in pursuing the immigrant visa.
