DREAM Act Being Voted On In The Senate Today

After re-introduction by Senator Durbin (D-IL) on October 18th as a stand-alone bill following its rejection as part of the Department of Defense appropriations measure in September, the DREAM Act will be voted on today in the Senate in a cloture vote which will require 60 votes for passage. Today's action will largely determine the fate of the DREAM ACT for this year if it fails. Proponents and opponents of the measure have been active in contacting senatorial offices. If passed, the measure must still be taken up and passed in the House of Representatives before it can be sent to the President.

INS, successfully challenged INS' policy of over 40 years of revoking approved immigrant visa petitions under a nebulous standard of proof. Its value as precedent, however, was short-lived as it was specifically targeted by the Administration in the Intelligence Reform Act of 2004.
