What to Do When You Enter with Immigrant Visa and Do Not Receive the Green Card

Mrs. Huang asks:

My son and daughter immigrated to the U.S on 3/8/2014. They return to Hong Kong after two weeks. My son’s green card arrived after 1.5 month, but I still haven’t received my daughter’s green card. We paid the $165 fee already.

What should we do now?

Dear reader,

Since you already paid the $165 to the Department of Homeland Security electronically after obtaining immigrant visa approval, U.S.C.I.S. should generally send the card within 30 – 60 days. In the event that you have not still received your daughter’s green card by now, you should contact the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) of U.S.C.I.S. at 1-800-375-5283 to inquire. If the NCSC states that the card was sent to your daughter and it was not received, your daughter can file an I-90 request for replacement green card without fee. If the NCSC says that the card has not yet been ordered, it will issue a Service request to the Service center.
