Q & A 1.
Q&A 1.
When returning requested evidence to the U.S.C.I.S., no receipt
is provided.
Wen reader asks:
I came to US in August 2003 under K1 visa. I married an US citizen
in 9/03 and successfully received working permit, social security
card. In 2/04, I received the interview notice for the conditional
green card. I was interviewed on 3/04 at New Orleans, Louisiana.
At the time of interview, the examiner told me that my background
check has not been completed and it might be completed by June.
We did not bring all the required documents at the time and was
told to submit them within 80 days. The immigration center in New
Orleans received our additional documents on 5/7/04(the post office’s
return receipt is the proof). As of today, I have not received any
information from immigration. Is my case’s process normal?
Should the CIS send me a receipt when they received the additional
documents?
Dear reader:
Immigration officers are busy and many times cannot return to pending
cases for a long time. That is because their job on most days is
to continue interviewing a number of new cases every day. They need
to have time off the calendar for interviewing before they can return
to already interviewed cases. Also examiners take vacations, are
given special assignments, or leave the interviewing unit. I suggest
that if you have not already heard from the examiner by the time
that this letter appears in print, you or your attorney should inquire
concerning the status of your matter to the examiner or the examiner's
supervisor. Such can be done by arranging an InfoPass appointment
at the local office. When returning requested evidence to the U.S.C.I.S.,
no receipt is provided. Receipts are normally provided for monies
paid at the time of filing.
