E-verify To Be Placed Into Effect for Contract Jobs
As part of the campaign against hiring illegal aliens, the Obama
administration is requiring over 170,000 contractors to verify workers’
and applicants’ legality in the states through the E-verify
system, which checks for immigration and social security information.
In September, 4 million contract workers will have their identities
confirmed against federal databases. At the same time, the Obama
administration abandoned a controversial crackdown method which
would have sent “no-match” letters to 140,000 contractors
around the United States about suspicious workers. These letters
would have instructed the employers to confirm the workers’
identities or fire them within 90 days.
